FORD GT protected by "Cat 5" Cobra vehicle security tracking package

Inspired by the fabulous original GT40 of the sixties, the new Ford GT is making headlines for all the right reasons across Europe. Stylish, powerful, and with an already developing cult status, this classic-looking sports car is attracting tremendous interest from just about every angle.

Ford have recognised this heightened interest, but sadly also recognise the need to deter the less welcome eyes of the criminal fraternity, which is why they have specified a modern vehicle security package from Cobra - European leaders in vehicle protection. This security package is one of a number of detail changes that have been developed by Ford Team RS and engineered specially for the 101 GTs that are being imported officially by Ford into Europe.

Cobra UK technical specialist, Andy Archibald, was happy to provide technical support and advice to Ford Team RS on the ideal specification of security for this prestigious and valuable model. The intention was to provide a high level of protection and peace of mind for the owner, and the result was a package combining a sophisticated Cobra GPS tracking device with a Cobra Cat 1 alarm/immobiliser.

Recognising that these vehicles are likely to attract a high insurance premium, CobraTrak 5 was specified - Cobra's new stolen vehicle tracking system that conforms to the new Thatcham Category 5 criteria for after theft recovery systems. In fact, this is believed to be the first vehicle manufacturer specified Cat 5 approval in the UK - a proud boast for both Ford of Europe and Cobra UK.

CobraTrak 5, a sophisticated GPS/GSM tracking and locating device, is installed with an automatic driver recognition feature and can offer rapid alert in the event of vehicle theft. The system offers Europe-wide coverage, and in the unfortunate event of a vehicle theft, will allow the Cobra 24 hour control centre to get an accurate location for the vehicle, helping the police to locate and recover it as quickly as possible.

The Cobra tracking system is complemented by a Cobra alarm/immobiliser system that is tested to Thatcham Cat 1. This system includes an inclination sensor to detect any lifting or towing.

Cobra Tracking systems are available in the UK from around £299 plus fitting and an annual subscription of £120 (all prices include VAT) which includes Europe-wide coverage.
